A Dickension Christmas Market In Rochester

This weekend saw the Dickension Christmas Festival come to Rochester, Kent where streets were alive with entertainment, readings, song and dance.
Packed with quaint shops including our very own Pink Flamingo Boutique and culinary delights, Rochester becomes a feast of Victorian history. There were lamp-lit parades, choirs singing carols, Father Christmas made an appearance and pretty twinkling fairy lights all framed by Rochester’s picturesque Cathedral and Castle.
The Rochester Dickensian Christmas Festival has been held annually since 1988. Medway held a special place in Charles Dickens’ life and work; the famous writer spent five of his childhood years in Medway, he returned for the last few years of his life, dying at Gads Hill in 1870.
Rochester is also home to the Dickens Christmas Market open Wednesday-Sunday until the 18th December 2011. Set in the beautiful grounds of Rochester Castle overlooking the River Medway and just a few steps from Rochester’s picture-postcard Victorian High Street.
Come along and enjoy a truly festive atmosphere with the castle walls illuminated in traditional Christmas colours and trees filled with sparkling fairy lights, the smell of roasted chestnuts and mulled wine fills the air amongst a wonderful array of German style wooden huts selling a wide range of hand-crafted goods and a festive fair complete with it’s own big wheel with views across the River!
Once you’ve had your fair share of Christmas fun pop down to the High Street into Pink Flamingo Boutique where you will find some beautiful new Cath Kidston collections including some pretty vintage style gift sets and Stunning party dresses by Darling. We also have some fabulous snow boots in store (just in-case the snow starts falling!)
